Former Black Bears' Brandon Waddell leads Altoona Curve to win in first game of Championship Series

Former West Virginia Black Bears and current Altoona Curve pitcher Brandon Waddell  pitched six scoreless innings (6 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 BB 6 SO) Tuesday night as the Curve defeated the Trenton Thunder 2-1 in the first game of the AA Eastern League Championship series.

Waddell was drafted by the Pirates in the 5th round of the 2015 draft out of the University of Virginia. He played for the West Virginia Black Bears during their New York-Penn League Championship season in 2015. He started the 2016 with the Bradenton Marauders in the Florida State League and was promoted to the Altoona Curve on May 16, 2016.

He appeared in 15 regular season games this season with Curve between being placed  on the disabled list on April 18 and June 8, 2017. He had rehab assignments with the Gulf Coast League Pirates and the Black Bears this season.

Altoona and Trenton play game two of the Eastern League Championship Series tonight in Trenton. The best of five game series moves to PNG Field in Altoona on Thursday, September 14.
