Updates: Former Black Bears

Trae Arbet
Trae Arbet, who played in two games for the West Virginia Black Bears in 2016, was released by the Pittsburgh Pirates on May 24. He was assigned to the Bradenton Marauders this season.

Pirates Prospects reported back on May 25, that former Black Bears prospect Kevin Mahala (2016) was no longer with the Pirates organization. It is unclear if he retired or was given his release.

According to Pirates Prospects, suspended prospect Mitchell Tolman (played for Black Bears in 2015) will be able to return to action soon. Tolman was suspended for 50 games for violation of the minor league drug policy back in February. He reportedly received a second positive test for a "drug of abuse".

Ty Moore was signed by the Schaumburg Boomers of the independent Frontier League on May 27. Moore played for the Black Bears in 2015 and 2016. He was released by the Pirates organization on March 28. He was signed and released by the Winnipeg Goldeyes in the independent American Association earlier this year.
